FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
This is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of the
Kalkaska County Construction Codes web site. Here we provide
answers to the most commonly asked questions about the building
permit process.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER PERMITS I WILL NEED?: You must have Zoning, Septic
and Water Well permits - approved and issued - before you can
receive a building permit. Copies of approved Zoning, Septic and
Water Well permits must accompany your building application when it is
submitted to us for review.

WHERE DO I GET ZONING, SEPTIC AND WATER WELL PERMITS?: Information
on where to obtain these other permits can be found back on the
link: "Checklist of Requirements for Permit Issuance". There
you will find a list of contact numbers for these other agencies.

NUMBER OF PLAN COPIES WE REQUIRE:

RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION (LESS THAN 3500 SQ. FT.) You will need to
submit 2 sets of complete plans for residential construction.
It is not necessary that these plans be sealed.

RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION (GREATER THAN 3500 SQ. FT.) You will need
to submit 2 complete sets of SEALED plans for residential construction of
greater than 3500 sq. feet.

COMMERCIAL and INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTION: You will need to submit 3
complete sets of SEALED plans for Commercial and Industrial construction,
regardless of project size.

WHAT IS THE JOB STREET ADDRESS?: The job street address is the address
of the work site, itself.

WHAT IS THE MAILING ADDRESS?: The mailing address is where you
receive your mail. (So it may or may not be the job street address, which is
the address of the work site.) Just remember - mailing address is where you
pick up your mail; job street address is the address of the work site.

WHERE IS THE FEE INFORMATION?: There isn't any permit fee
information on this web site. Fees are calculated once you submit your
plans to the Construction Codes office.

PAYMENT: We accept these forms of payment: cash, personal or
business checks, credit cards, debit cards, and money orders. The link for the pay from home option is Permit Fees - Online - Kalkaska County (govpros.us)
