Dave is a second generation resident of Garfield Township. He has 20 years experience in trucking and excavating. He runs a fair and honest business.
He and his wife Kim have 2 daughters who also live in the township. They have 4 beautiful grandchildren.
Dave is also the Fire Chief for Garfield Township, Station 3. He was a charter member of the fire department at its inception in 1981. He has been the chief since 1983. His wife and daughters are also members of the fire department.
Assistant Chief
Al Shively was also a founding member of the department. He now serves as Assistant Chief.
Al is a third generation Garfield Township resident. He worked for Shell for 28 years and stayed on with Merritt Energy when they took over. He has 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
Serving the township runs in the family. In the past, Al was on the Board of Review, the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. His father was the treasurer at one time and then the supervisor of the township.

Kim Jones joined the department in 1987.

Todd Jones became a member in 1992. He is a third generation Garfield Township resident. He and his wife, Bobbie Jo, have 3 beautiful children, Lane, Ty and Meghan.
Todd was elected township supervisor in November 2004. He is also on the Cemetery Committee, the Historical Society, the Action Group, and the Board of Review. In the past, Todd also served on the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Training Officer
Bernie Jacobson has been a member since 1991. He is certified in many areas by the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council to teach classes. He is also the training coordinator for Kalkaska County

Sam Dennis rejoined the department in 2007. He was a fire fighter for 2 years, but he had to resign. After taking a year off, he joined the department again.
He, too, is a third generation resident of Garfield Township. He has 2 children, Dylan and Makayla. Sam is a welder by trade.

Dennis Whitenight and his wife, Donna, moved to Garfield Township when he retired from Chrysler in June 2001, after working there 32 years. He also serves the township as Zonong Administrator and he works with the Action Committee.
He has 4 grandchildren, JD, Connor, Kayla and Christopher. They are the proud owners of "Tibby", a very spoiled chocolate doberman.
