On Saturday, September 8, 2007, Margaret Custer, Bob Dryden, Todd & Lane Jones, Pat & Willie Pickelman and Shelly Major went to Camp Grayling to see the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) in action. We were met at the main gate by SGT Roger Rochefort. He had a van large enough for all of us. He took us to an observation point. There we were met by SSG Shawn Regier. He is in charge of the range. After watching 9 rockets launched, he took us to another vantage point. It was a 60' tower. Colonel Dean Brown and CSM Terry Richardson met us there. They answered any and all of our questions. Before we left they asked if there was anything else that would interest us. We asked to see a multiple launch vehicle. SGT Rochefort returned to be our escort to M.A.T.E.S. (Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site). There Major Mike McNamara was our guide. He showed us the launch vehicle, tanks and other equipment. He did a great job of explaining what their purpose was. On our way back to the main gate, we traveled along a training route. That was interesting. Many thanks to Col. Brown, CSM Richardson, Major McNamara, SSG Regier and SGT Rochefort for making us feel like VIP's. They were all personable, pleasant and attentive. I did not have much success with the pictures I took. The rockets were much faster than my camera. The first 3 pictures were taken from the internet.
