The Kalkaska American Legion Post 480 and The Kalkaska VFW Post 8684 are seeking new Honor Guard members.    The only criteria is that you must be a military veteran with an Honorable discharge.  (You need to provide a copy of your  DD-214).    You do not need to be member of either The American Legion or the VFW.

The Honor Guard provides Military Honors at  Veteran funerals.   Honors include folding and presenting the United States burial flag,  a rifle detail, and the playing of "Taps".

The Honor Guard also participates in ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, as well as events at the Trout Festival Parade, the Christmas in Kalkaska Parade, and the annual 4-H Fair.

The Honor Guard, together with our local Boy Scout / Cub Scout Troops conduct flag retirement ceremonies.

In order to continue these activities, we need more Veterans to be a part of the Honor Guard.

If you are interested in joining the Honor Guard contact Dave at 231-587-4328.
